Formative assessment is crucial to student success, but it can be laborious and time consuming for the teacher. We will explore a very powerful free tool called GoFormative to make this easier. This tool will help you quickly assess where your students are at, so you can work smarter, not harder. It allows you to ask questions and get responses in multiple formats including annotated text, multiple choice, short answer, etc. Although we will focus on math in this session, GoFormative is applicable in any subject and at almost any grade. To achieve maximum depth and understanding, we will only be focusing on this one tool.
OUTCOMES: You will leave this sessions knowing everything you will need to use GoFormative in your classroom on day one. In addition, we will discuss more efficient ways to reflect on the data with your students. Participate in a GoFormative assessment as a student. See that assessment from the teacher's side in real time, and look at the results together. Create your own classroom(s). Create your very own GoFormative assessment. Have others participate in your assessment and see the results. Debrief and discuss the applicability of this tool in your own classrooms.
WHAT TO BRING: GoFormative works well for students on various devices including Chromebooks. Creating an assessment is easier with a laptop, so bring one if you can.
